It was indeed a busy day for Maya. She first went to a morning TV guesting followed by a look test for a horror movie role offered to her. Maya’s flawless and effortless acting skills amazed the film producers, writers, and executives. They were so convinced with her versatility that is why they never had doubts about choosing her. She was about to leave the area when one of the writers approached her.
“Hi, Ms. Maya. I just want to thank you na tinanggap niyo po ‘yung role. You’re a perfect fit for it.” said Jessica.
Maya reached on to Jessica’s shoulders. “You’re welcome! It’s my pleasure. Paano ba ‘yan, I have to go ha? See you sa press conference.” She waved good bye at Jessica and the latter did the same.
Beep. Beep. It was a text message from Richard.
Good afternoon, sweetheart. Just landed. Pauwi narin ako maya-maya. Where are you? Missing you badly. Love you!
Maya felt giddy upon reading her boyfriend’s text message. She replied:
Yay! You’re back! Sorry sweetheart, I am not able to pick you up from the airport. Kakagaling ko lang sa look test. I am now heading to Pamela and Nelson’s wedding. Miss na miss na talaga kita. Can’t wait for Monday kasi magkikita tayo ulit sa work. Love you mahal ko!
Meanwhile at the airport, Richard was waiting for his driver to arrive. Leilani and Abigail all ready left together with Leilani’s cousins. He was still having second thoughts of what happened about him and Leilani on the previous night.
No worries, sweetheart. Alam ko naman na busy ka and I am happy na marami kang projects. I also can’t wait to see you. Ilang araw nalang ba ‘yon from now? Hmm… It’s Saturday today… Naku! 2 days pa. Huhu!
Maya can’t stop giggling.
Sweetheart talaga. Di ba, 5 days yung bakasyon mo? Oh, sulitin mo pa ‘yung natitira mong 2 days. Ay, kaso di ba, meron kang out of town show?
Finally, Richard’s driver arrived and he went inside his car.
Ah, yes. Pero it was cancelled. The weather was bad daw kasi that is why. I thought makakapahinga na ako, but, Levi called me up. May konting problema daw sa restau that we need to talk about. Sweetheart, I want to see you tonight. Dinner? Or midnight snack?
Maya arrived at the church and mingled with other guests while waiting for the ceremony to start.
Mr. Lim! Love you! I’ll text you later ha? Baka kasi mag-start na ‘yung wedding.
Richard placed Maya’s pink travel pillow, which was left in his car, around his neck.
Enjoy sweetheart. Please extend my regards to Pam and Nelson. See you tonight! Gihigugma ko ikaw. Sobra!
It was around 11 in the evening when Maya reached home. She had a great time with her friends, however, she was constantly thinking about Richard and Raffi. An hour ago, he informed her that they had to cancel their plans because he has to hurry to Raffi’s house. Raffi’s father was rushed to the hospital and Richard had to assist them. Maya offered Richard a hand but he insisted that she should enjoy time with her friends for everything was under control. They were supposed to stay at Maya’s house to watch a movie.
While making her way inside the house, Maya, to her surprise, was welcomed by Manang Fely. “Maya, kanina pa may nag-aantay sa iyo sa loob…”
“Sino po Manang?” Maya opened the door. Still in shock, she blankly stared at the familiar couple.
The lady came near and embraced her. “Maya… How are you, ija? It’s been a while.”
“Maya, we’re sorry we didn’t inform you that we’re coming.” A gentleman butt in.
Maya motioned to the living area. “Tito Ben, Tita Lou, have a seat po. Napadalaw po kayo?”
The couple looked at each other. Then, Raphael Jimenez, Sr. or simply Ben to his family and friends, spoke. “Ah, ija, hindi na kami magpapaligoy-ligoy pa ng Tita Lou mo. Si Raph ang dahilan kung bakit kami nandito.”
Lourdes Jimenez joined in the conversation. “Maya, my son mentioned to me na naghiwalay na nga raw kayo months ago. After that, I’ve never seen him happy. Parati siyang moody, depressed. Halos ibang-iba na sa Raphael na nakilala mo. Hanggang sa isang araw, bigla nalang siyang nagkasakit dahil bumaba ang resistensya niya. Sinubsob ni Raph ang sarili niya sa trabaho para makalimot. Ija, nasa ospital parin si Raph ngayon. Ang masakit pa, nagka-roon siya ng dissociative amnesia. Sabi ng mga doktor, epekto raw ito nang mga masasakit na nangyari sa buhay niya that is why there are certain parts of his life that he cannot remember. Sa ngayon, ang alam niya, ikaw ang girlfriend niya…” Lourdes wasn’t able to contain her emotions.
Ben, while comforting his wife, continued, “Maya, please, we’re begging you. We knew that your relationship had a rough ending. Pero Maya, ang sabi rin sa amin ng mga doktor, kailangan ni Raph ng supporta mula sa mga kapamilya at kaibigan niya for his fast recovery. At ikaw lang ija ang makakatulong sa amin sa panahong ito. Maya, kung kailangan kong lumuhod—“
Maya stopped Ben from kneeling down. “Tito Ben, hindi niyo po kailangan gawin ‘yan…” She wanted to help although she was quite hesitant about it. “Hindi ko po maipapangako, pero, susubukan kong dumalaw…”
Lou held Maya’s hand and gazed straight to her eyes. “Maya, please, we beg you. Hanggang sa gumaling lang si Raph… Please?”
Maya nodded with her lips pursued while rubbing the back of her neck. “Tito, Tita, pasensya na po kayo ha? But if you’ll excuse me, kailangan ko na rin po kasing magpahinga. Madami po kasi akong inasikaso kanina. Kayo rin po, alam ko na kailangan niyo narin pong umuwi. Medyo late na po.” She said with a concerned look.
“Naku, Maya, kami dapat ang manghingi sa iyo ng dispensa. Pasensya ka na talaga, ikaw lang talaga ang naisip namin na makakatulong. Ngayon palang nagpapasalamat na kaming mag-asawa sa iyo.” Lou once again went up to her and embraced her tightly.
“Walang ano man po, Tito, Tita. Good night.” Maya bade good bye and went upstairs without looking back at the couple.
The next day, Maya went to the hospital to visit Raph. She was wearing a white collared lace blouse, a pair of dark blue jeans, a skin toned pair of ballet flats and an aviator shades. Heads turned while she was walking to the elevator carrying a basket of fruits. There were some nosy hospital workers who found it hard not to murmur.
One of the female nurses said, “Hala, di ba, si Maya ‘yon? Akala ko ba break na sila ni Raph?”
“Girl, siyempre, alam mo naman sa showbiz… Pero, ha, in fairness, ang ganda niya talaga!” The other nurse exclaimed.
Maya was aware about her surroundings but she still managed to keep relaxed and even grinned to everyone who greeted her. When she finally reached the floor where Raph’s room is, she immediately looked for it.
She slowly opened the door after knocking. “Raph…” That was all she could say.
Raph was half-asleep when he saw Maya entered. He instantly felt energized. “Hi babe! I missed you!”
Maya hated the way Raph addressed her. Unfortunately, she has to play along and to remind herself that she should control her temper. “Hello. Kamusta ka na?”
“Well, feeling ko pwede na ako lumabas ng ospital. Sumigla ako lalo nang makita kita.” Raph replied.
Maya faked a smile. “Ah, kumain ka na ba?”
“Oo, kanina pa.” Raph reached out for Maya’s hand. “Dito ka nga sa tabi ko. Namiss talaga kita. Siya nga pala, kamusta ‘yung taping niyo ni Raffi? Alam mo, ang galing mo talaga. Biro mo, naasar sa iyo yung mga nanunuod, and mind you, mga employees ko sa opisina, hook na hook sa programa niyo.”
Maya was starting to feel uncomfortable. “Ah… Oo… Thank you kamo.”
Raph was about to kiss her cheeks when Maya disengaged from him. “Ah, Raph, kainin mo ‘tong prutas, oh. Masarap ‘to.”
Good thing the nurse came in and gave Raph his medicine. Few minutes after, Raph felt drowsy and told Maya that he was going to take a nap. Maya sat on the sofa beside Raph’s bed. She pitied Raph for his condition but at the same time she felt guilty for not telling Richard where she was. Maya was afraid of what Richard’s reaction might be and she did not want to disturb him for he was dealing with some problems in his restaurant.
